PAK MONG
OVERVIEW |
| The village of Pak Mong is situated at an intersection where the road from Luang Prabang divides into one heading to Oudomxai, and the other to Nong Khiow and Nam Bak. The intersection itself is the focus of the town, with a number of restaurants, guesthouses and snack stalls crowding to be closest. A number of vehicles stop for refreshment, but the fact that it's now only a few hours from major destinations in either direction means that the number is rapidly dropping.
On the road out of town in each direction, things are more rural, and charming wooden houses pop up. An hour out of town back towards Luang Prabang is a waterfall and there's a small wat up the hill from the intersection. Otherwise there's little to do, and little reason to stay, but a number of basic guesthouses and a couple of decent restaurants have sprung up.
